Beyondo specializes on recruiting international talent for positions in international companies and organizations. We met up with Karin Björkman, proud owner of and recruiter at Beyondo Sweden, to ask her what kind of talent they are looking for and why companies benefit from hiring internationals.
Can you (Karin) tell us a bit about yourself?
I am a Swedish international who has been living and working abroad for more than 25 years. Having learned to adapt and adjust in various cultures I have benefitted from by being able to speak various languages. I possess a real passion for connecting with people with different backgrounds and connecting them with others. 5 years ago, after 20 years living in The Netherlands and working for Undutchables (a recruitment agency for internationals ) in Eindhoven, I got the opportunity to bring the concept to Sweden and launch it on the Swedish market. Bringing it into full circle, having been new in a country, not speaking a word of Dutch, integrating there, learning the language etc. and now having returned to Sweden and re-adjusting to the Swedish culture! It has been a success and now I am taking a next step in the career and as entrepreneur and have, together with my partner, founded the brand Beyondo – recruitment beyond a CV.
What is Beyondo and how is it different from other recruitment agencies?
Beyondo works with recruitment of internationals of internationally experienced candidates (Swedish and non-Swedish speakers) for international organizations. This could be Swedish companies in need of international competence, or international organisations entering the Swedish market vice versa. We believe in building a strong network within the international community, with people from different backgrounds and expertise and connecting people to achieve business goals. By doing this, we do not forget the personal story behind a person. One will always have to adjust in a new country, a new situation and in a new relationship, however, in the case of being new in a country, being able to use your talent and ‘be you and do’ is important, hence the name Beyondo. We go beyond a resume and to see the talents someone bring.
How come you started up in Sweden?
Sweden is globalizing and needs to ensure it attracts the right talent with an international prospective to compete on the global market. Sweden needs a partner that guides international experienced candidates to enter the job market in Sweden.
What kind of companies do you collaborate with?
We help companies in any area of business that are looking to expand their business internationally. Also, we have a network of international companies that are looking for talents in Sweden. We focus on ‘office jobs’, anything that will keep the business growing.
What candidates are you interested in?
We are interested in any candidate with the right experience and expertise for positions we are recruiting for, with an international mindset. This could be someone just having arrived in Sweden, home comers / returnees, candidates with a good educational background in any of the various areas of businesses such as sales, marketing, IT development, finance etc.
How does the recruitment process work?
Our approach is to see the person behind a CV. We believe in building a long term relationship with our candidates and clients. If we have a suitable opportunity, we meet up with our candidates face to face or via a digital meeting to get to know the person behind the resume. If we feel that the candidate is a suitable match, we introduce them to our client and help both parties throughout the whole recruitment process. We even do a follow up after a few weeks to make sure the recruitment has been successful. We love being a partner to both candidates and client and share our expertise. We also meet up with people pro-actively in order to build a network of potential candidates. Close contact with our clients is also important so we also meet up with them in order gauge their specific needs and requirements. This ensures that we find fit for the positions.
Does Sweden and the Netherlands differ when it comes to international recruitment?
Yes, Sweden is about 10 years behind The Netherlands when it comes to being open to diversity and see the added value of hiring a candidate with an international background. Also, I think the decision making is sometimes more efficient in The Netherlands.
What are the benefits of hiring international talents?
When hiring international talents, you do not only get the right skills, but you also get the benefit of being exposed to new ideas, cultures and perspectives that can help the company to grow. Employing international people from different backgrounds, educational and areas of expertise, for example, can really add value to the existing employees by inspiring them to be more creative and use other problem-solving methods. Also, speaking several languages demonstrates intelligence, social confidence, and problem-solving ability! These are skills to hire for!
You work with an unusual business plan for the recruitment market – can you tell us a bit about that?
We work on a no cure no pay basis. This means we will only invoice our clients once a candidate has actually starting working for them. You can imagine how hard we will work to find a suitable candidate. This is the thing, we need to walk that extra mile, because if we do not deliver, we do not get paid!
